Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site Hosts Annual Harvest Frolic September 23 and 24
LERNA, IL -Celebrate the arrival of autumn at Lincoln Log Cabin's annual Harvest Frolic on Saturday and Sunday, September 23 and 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.
Saturday's activities will kick off with a 5k run or 1-mile walk starting at 9:00 a.m. Registration forms can be found by visiting www.lincolnlogcabin.org, or participants can register the day of the race from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m.
After the 5k, don't miss experiencing 19th century life on the farm. Activities will take place at both the Lincoln and Sargent farms both days, and will include children's games, crafts, and hearth cooking. Visitors are encouraged to take part in the period games and activities. A number of period artisans and craftsmen will be onsite demonstrating their crafts, including woodcarving, embroidery, pottery, tinsmithing, blacksmithing, broommaking, tintype photography, dulcimer making, and millinery. Special presentations will include oxen pulling by Gerry Barker, Unreconstructed String Band, nature walks with Brian "Fox" Ellis, the Grand Camera Obscura demonstration by Jon Stealey, a magic show and a puppet show, and a 19th century street performance with the Clockwork Clown, as well as dulcimer playing and storytelling with Mike Anderson.
Visitors who work up an appetite will find delicious food offerings such as Smoky‘s BBQ of Charleston, pies from the Fillin' Station of Toledo, and kettle corn, and visitors can enjoy a game of cricket on Sunday only, along with a visit from Abraham Lincoln. A pop-up farmers market will feature Four Little Pumpkins Farm.
Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site, a gateway site for the Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area, was the 1840s home of Abraham Lincoln's father and stepmother, Thomas and Sarah Bush Lincoln. It is located eight miles south of Charleston and 14 miles southwest of Mattoon, Illinois. The Harvest Frolic is produced by Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site and the Lincoln Log Cabin Foundation, with support from the Charleston Area Charitable Foundation and sponsorship from Sarah Bush Lincoln Health System and Consolidated Communications.
