Possible online services disruption due to Internet related outage

A worldwide technology outage is causing disruption to some State of Illinois online systems.  We are aware of this issue and are diligently working on restoration.

May 11th- World Migratory Day- Bird hike at 9:30am starting at Veterans Point with Master Naturalist RoxAnn Snelson

May 26th- Bird and nature hike at 9:30 starting from the camp host with Master Naturalist RoxAnn Snelson

June 1st at 10 am – Meet at the schoolhouse and learn from Master Gardeners about the lives of PERIODICAL CICADAS as well as the impact they may have on our landscapes this year. Periodical Cicadas

June 14 at 4 pm – REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE program Reuse IT!

June 15- 8:30-11am  Fishing Derby   Location: Boat Dock/Concession stand

June 22- 10am "Ham Radio: Connecting with the World". Program presented by licensed Ham operator with demonstrations.  Location: Schoolhouse

July 13-  10-11am "Native American's use of the Prairie" with speaker Mary Ann Clifton. Location: Schoolhouse

August 17- 8pm "Our Amazing Moon" with Astronomer Carl Wenning. Talk and observation with telescopes. Feel free to bring your own telescope. Location: Schoolhouse

August 31- 10am "The Life of a Monarch" with Master Naturalist Mare Paine. A program that we hope to release Monarchs as well.  Location: Schoolhouse

Sept. 14- 9am-12pm "Take Me Fishing" A program hosted by IDNR's Van Grissom. Poles and bait supplied.  Location: Boat Dock/Concession stand.

Interpretive Events

July 20th 10 am. Adult class "Bird Watching: 101" Learn about birding from Master Naturalist, RoxAnne Snelson. She will share tips and tricks, apps and more! (This program was offered in June as well. We will have part 2 later this summer.)

July 27th 1 pm. "Wonders of Owls" Learn about owls from Master Naturalists Cassandra & Anton Meyen. We will dissect owl pellets as well. All ages welcome.

Aug. 3rd 9-11 am. "Bio-Blitz" in collaboration with the IL Extension 4-H and Ag & Natural Recourses. Come explore nature and help document species of birds, insects, mammals, fish and more! Meet us at Chautauqua Picnic Area.

Aug. 4th 1-2 pm. "Rock Talk" with avid collector Calvin Lunny. Mr. Lunny will share facts and bring some of his extensive collection. This is a fun, interactive program.

Sept. 21st 10 am. "Pollinator Gardens" in collaboration with the U of I Extension office. More info to come.

Oct. 26th 1-2:30 pm. Halloween Party with crafts, games and refreshments. Every child will leave with prizes and a candy bag.
