Possible online services disruption due to Internet related outage

A worldwide technology outage is causing disruption to some State of Illinois online systems.  We are aware of this issue and are diligently working on restoration.

Boating Accident Reporting

You must report your boating accident if the accident results in the loss of life, injury to a person greater than first aid, or total property damage (vessel, contents, and other property) is $2,000.00 or greater.

Instructions for reporting a Boating Accident:

  • Complete the Boating Accident Form

  • Once completed, save the form and attach it to an email to: dnr.boataccidents@illinois.gov

    or print and mail it to:

    Illinois Department of Natural Resources
    Office of Law Enforcement
    Attention: Boat Accident
    One Natural Resources Way
    Springfield, IL 62702

  • Report your boating accident for investigation to the either the Illinois Conservation Police or your local law enforcement agency.

Completing the Boating Accident Form only fulfills your written reporting requirement per the Illinois Boat Registration and Safety Act of 1959.
