The site is about 3 miles northeast of Annawan in northeastern Henry County.

Description

Mineral Marsh Nature Preserve is dominated by sand prairie, and semi-permanent ponds surrounded by wet sand prairie and marsh. It is part of a larger site that was recognized by the Illinois Natural Areas Inventory for its endangered and threatened species. The natural areas are characteristic of the Green River Lowland Section of the Grand Prairie Natural Division. Among the flora and fauna found here are rare plants and animals that use the site for breeding, migration, wintering, and foraging. The large expanse of grassland provides habitat for several species of grassland birds.
