Location And Access

From Northbrook at jct. Willow Road & Pfingsten Road, take Willow Road east 1 mi. to Shermer Road, then turn and go north 0.5 mi. to Glenbrook North High School. The nature preserve is in the northwest corner of the campus 0.4 mi. west of the high school, which is west of Shermer Road.

Description

Glenbrook North Prairie is a remnant of mesic black soil prairie. It lies in a slight depression on a gently rolling moraine. Some common herbaceous prairie plants are northern dropseed, sky blue aster, alumroot, and hard-leaved goldenrod. Wetter areas contain cordgrass and bluejoint grass. A cyclone fence was erected by the Glenbrook High School Science Department to protect the prairie. Other management activities include prescribed burning.
