Location And Access

The site is in the north-central portion of DuPage County just north of downtown Bloomingdale within the Morainal Section of the Northeastern Morainal Natural Division. The preserve is a part of Meacham Grove Forest Preserve. The main entrance is on the west side of Circle Avenue 0.25 mile north of Lake Street. There are 3 miles of trails with parking and restrooms.

Description

Meacham Grove Nature Preserve is comprised of upland forest and intermittent streams which encompasses the Meacham Grove Illinois Natural Areas Inventory site (INAI #0523). Grade B dry-mesic upland forest and Grade B mesic upland forest make up most of the preserve. The mesic upland forest is predominated by black maple, sugar maple, American linden, and white ash, with an understory which includes great white trillium, false rue anemone, broad-leaved goldenrod, Short’s aster, James’ sedge, and white baneberry. The dry-mesic upland portion consists of white oak, bur oak, white ash, and black cherry, with an understory consisting of mainly red trillium, declined trillium, Pennsylvania sedge, rue anemone, common wild leek, and elm-leaved goldenrod. There have been 280 native plant species documented on site.
