Location And Access

Special Note: Fox River Fen is a privately owned nature preserve. Entrance is by permission only.

Description

Fox River Fen is a small wetland complex of fen, sedge meadow and mesic prairie communities. It features a high quality graminoid fen community which provides habitat for the rare green orchid. White camass has been reported from this site. Other notable plant species that occur here are narrow-leaved cottongrass, common valarian, bottle gentian, Michigan lily and arrow arum. Several wetland dependent butterflies are also found here. A small floodplain forest separates the preserve from the Fox River. The Fox River Trail path borders the preserve on the east and many interesting plants occur on the edge of the trail. Purple loosestrife is a serious management concern that is being addressed by McGraw staff.
