Description

Gavin Bog and Prairie contains wetland, prairie and forest communities of the Morainal Section of the Northeastern Morainal Natural Division. This part of the state is characterized by glacial landforms including natural lakes and areas of poor drainage. Depressions, including the 35-acre bog, are scattered throughout the tract. The preserve's natural communities, marsh, sedge meadow, forest, prairie and bog provide habitat for rare plant species as well as many common animal species. Brush removal and prescribed burns are critical management tools used to protect this preserve. This nature preserve is represented on two topos, Fox Lake and Antioch 7.5
