Description
Hybernia is a complex of wetlands, prairies, and mesic savanna reminiscent of the integrated landscape of presettlement times. It is located within the Morainal Section of the Northeastern Morainal Division and is situated on a rolling ground moraine. The wetland plant communities are within a drainageway which has a seasonally high water table. Hybernia Nature Preserve is contiguous with Highmoor which features similar plant communities and is part of the same drainage system. These communities provide habitat for an array of beautiful prairie forbs such as the purple milkweed, bottle gentian, blue flag, fringed loosestrife, wild quinine, small sundrops, and meadowsweet as well as many native grasses and sedges.
