Description

Privately owned Nature Preserve. Bystricky Prairie was identified in 1986 as the only high quality black soil prairie left in McHenry County. The prairie represents the original vegetation of the Northeastern Morainal Natural Division. The natural communities here include marsh, sedge meadow and dry mesic to wet prairie. The open prairies have a high diversity of native plants including the uncommon cream wild indigo. Two other rare plant species, dwarf birch and hoary willow, also occur.
