Location And Access

From IL Rt 47 approximately one mile south of Morris; travel east on County road 19 approximately 6 1/4 miles; then south on a surfaced road 1/2 mile to a "T"; east on gravel road 1/4 mile to curve; south 1/4 mile to first road on left; east again on that gravel road 1/2 mile; south again 1/8 mile to intersection; finally west 200 yards to Cemetery (north side of dirt road).

Description

Short Pioneer Cemetery Prairie Nature Preserve is a dry-mesic sand prairie that lies at the western edge of the Kankakee Sand Area Section of the Grand Prairie Natural Division. Grasses include little and big bluestems, Indian grass and porcupine grass interspersed with forbs such as cleft phlox, western sunflower, prickly pear cactus, poppy mallow, round-headed bush clover, leadplant and goat's rue.
