Description
This is a site established as a nature preserve for the purpose of protecting a large heron rookery which contains great egrets, great blue herons, black-crowned night-herons and double-crested cormorants. The great egrets and black-crowned night-herons are present in relatively large numbers. Recent management efforts have included the construction of structures designed to prevent erosion of the island where the rookery is located. This erosion was a threat to the trees where the herons nest.
