Location And Access
The preserve is in the southwestern portion of Section 31, Township 20 North, Range 7 East of the 3rd Principal Meridian in Mahomet Township, Champaign County. It is not currently open to the public.
Description
Charlotte and Dan Brady Woods is a 20-acre Nature Preserve located along the Sangamon River in Champaign County, lying within the Grand Prairie Section of the Grand Prairie Natural Division of Illinois. Natural communities on site include medium gradient medium stream, wet-mesic floodplain forest, and mesic upland forest. It protects and buffers the high-quality biological resources of the Sangamon River that flows through the property, supplies habitat for several state-listed species and Species of Greatest Conservation Need that occur in the Sangamon River (there are over a dozen species of mussels recorded from this stretch of river), and protects the floodplain forest communities.
