Location

The site is located on the left bank of the Fox River, immediately south of Interstate 80, on the northeast side of the City of Ottawa. It is in Section 5 of Rutland Township and Section 32 of Dayton Township in LaSalle County.

Description

Dayton Bluffs is located along the lower Fox River, an Illinois Natural Areas Inventory site (INAI #1444) known for its high biological quality and for providing habitat for a state-threatened species. It is comprised of various Grade C natural communities including, dry-mesic upland forest, mesic upland forest, wet-mesic floodplain forest, and agricultural field. Dayton Bluffs is also an important perching/resting location for many bird species along the migratory corridor of the Fox River.

Access

The site is open to the public. There is a parking lot and a nature play area that children and families can visit. There are walking planks, climbing structures, and a dugout canoe in the play area.
