The site is located within Dirksen and McNaughton Parks in Pekin and Groveland Township.

Description

Dirksen-McNaughten Woods Land and Water Reserve protects, restores, and manages forest communities that provide habitat for a breeding bird community that includes many area-sensitive species. The site is composed of several types of second-growth upland forest along a wetness gradient, with riparian woods bordering the three major watercourses (Lick Creek and its tributaries) and a small amount of floodplain forest on nearly level areas along Lick Creek. There is also grasslands consisting of a cool-season grass-legume mix.

Access

The site is open to the public. Access is from a variety of public-entry points at Dirksen and McNaughton Parks. Running Deer Trail at Dirksen Park and Potawatomi Trail at McNaughton Parks are the main trail systems allowing public access to most of the site.
