Location

The site is located on the boarder of Tazewell and Peoria Counties in East Peoria adjacent to the Illinois River Bluffs. There are many nearby protected natural areas including Cooper Park Wetlands Land and Water Reserve, Fon du Lac Seep Nature Preserve, and Bennett's Terraqueous Gardens Nature Preserve.

Description

Fon du Lac Seep Land and Water Reserve protects a portion of the Fon du Lac Seep Illinois Natural Areas Inventory site (INAI #0851) and is included within the Peoria Wilds Resource Rich Area. It is located on the Illinois River bottomlands at the base of the river bluffs. The site consists of seep communities in restoration containing a variety of wetlands plants like the original plant communities that were once widespread along the Illinois River bluffs. Characteristic species of the seep community include bottlebrush sedge, swamp thistle, spotted joe-pye-weed, swamp goldenrod, skunk cabbage, and marsh marigold.

The site is open to the public. It can be entered from Access Road 6, a frontage road that runs parallel to Illinois Route 116.
