Location

The site is in southwestern McDonough County, about 1-miles east of Colmar.

Description

Grigsby Marsh Land and Water Reserve contains Grade B shrub swamp and marsh, and five natural seep springs that feed into the wetland, identified by the Illinois Natural Areas Inventory (Grigsby Marsh INAI #0171). The marsh and shrub swamp are high-quality and exceptional natural features in good condition which represents 80% of all high-diversity wetland identified by the INAI for the Galesburg Section of the Western Forest-Prairie Natural Division. The seep springs that feed the wetland are also considered exceptional natural features. The high-quality natural areas are surrounded by additional lower-quality marsh and second growth dry-mesic upland forest dominated by oak-hickory species. The site additionally provides habitat for at least three wildlife Species in Greatest Need of Conservation, identified by the Illinois Wildlife Action Plan.
