Location
The site is in the west-central portion of Champaign County. It lies 1.5 miles southwest of the Village of Mahomet within the corporate limits.
Description
River Bend Land and Water Reserve encompasses approximately 1.5 miles of the Sangamon River stream bed and its riparian corridor. The Illinois Natural Areas Inventory identifies the Sangamon River, including the portion of the river that passes through the site, as a Biologically Significant Stream. The reserve contains land within the floodplain of the Sangamon River that harbors features of great ecological importance worthy of special protection. These include the riparian corridor, associated ephemeral wetlands, a wet floodplain forest, and a wet-mesic floodplain forest.
