Location

The site is in east-central Lawrence County, approximately seven miles east of Lawrence. It is in the broad, old channel of the Wabash River.

Description

Robeson Hills Land and Water Reserve contains a portion of the Robeson Hills Illinois Natural Areas Inventory site. It contains mesic upland forest situated on nearly level uplands and moist slopes and ravines. On the level up-lands, white oak, sugar maple, and beech predominate with white ash, red elm, and hackberry are present. The most common shrub and tree species on these uplands are pawpaw, sugar maple, and beech. Beech, tulip tree, yellow chestnut oak, Kentucky coffee-tree, and sugar maple predominate on the slopes and ravines. Pawpaw, spicebush, and sugar maple are the most common understory species in these areas.
