Location

The site is on the west side of Joliet in central Will County. It is found on the north-central stretch of the Rock Run Greenway.

Description

Rock Run Land and Water Reserve is within a wide valley at the base of the Rockdale Moraine. There are seven natural community types found on the site: marsh, sedge meadow, wet prairie, wet-mesic prairie, mesic prairie, medium-gradient creek, and successional field being restored to prairie. There are a total of 311 native species including five regionally significant plant species and state-threatened species. The wetlands on site provide reliable foraging habitat for the nearby Lake Renwick heron rookery.
