Location
The site is in Lake County within Section 20 of Shields Township. It is bordered on the north by Illinois Route 176 and a water treatment facility operated by the Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency, and to the east by residential development extending west of Illinois Green Bay Road, Lake Bluff Forest Preserve.
Description
The site consists of Grade C sedge meadow and Grade C prairie that includes wet, wet-mesic, and mesic prairie. The reserve also contains high diversity of native plants and animals. It hosts a state-listed endangered species and three birds considered by the Illinois Wildlife Action Plan to be Species in Greatest Need of Conservation.

Access
The site is open to the public. Access is provided at four locations. The northern trail head and small parking area are located on Illinois Route 176. This trail head and parking is on property owned by Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency and extends south and loops through the reserve with two trails ending at the Carriage Path. The trail includes a bridge and a mown foot path through most of the site. Another access point is a small footpath in the West Terrace neighborhood with street parking. A third access to the site is from the southeast corner via a trail (“The Carriage Path”) located at the corner of McLaren Lane and W. Witchwood Lane. This trail also provides access to Oriole Grove. The only available parking at this trail head is on the street. Finally, the site can be accesses at the southwest corner via the Oriole Grove path.
