Location
The reserves lies near the center of Carroll County, a half-mile west of the Town of Mount Carroll.
Description
The site protects a significant portion of the 137-acre Waukarusa Canyon Illinois Natural Area Inventory Site (INAI #411). The four main natural communities on the reserve are dolomite cliff community, dry-mesic and mesic upland forest, high gradient creek, and terrestrial cave community. The Carroll Creek flows from east to west through the center of the site and has, over time, carved out a deep canyon with vertical dolomite cliffs up to 80 to 90 feet high.
