County

Will

Location

The site is on the west side of Joliet in central Will County. It is found on the north end of the Rock Run Greenway.

Description

Theodore Marsh Land and Water Reserve protects wetlands and habitat for state-listed bird species within the reserve. It is included within the Theodore Marsh Illinois Natural Areas Inventory site. The natural areas range from moderate quality wet-mesic to wet prairie/sedge meadow communities. Disturbed marsh communities are located adjacent to the channel of Rock Run, which flows through the center of the site. The formerly farmed uplands contain a low-diversity prairie restoration that is heavily dominated by warm-season prairie grasses, particularly big bluestem. These grasslands also support characteristic grassland bird and reptile species.
