Description

Warbler Landing Land and Water Reserve protects a biologically diverse segment of the Embarras River, associated forest and woodland, a state-threatened plant, and habitat for several state-threatened or endangered animals. The site includes a 0.12-mile segment of the Embarras River, recognized as a high-quality stream by the Illinois Natural Areas Inventory (INAI #1427) and the associated riparian corridor. The reserve is made up of ridgetops, steep slopes, and ravines sloping down to the Embarras River. The site also includes Grade C mesic and dry-mesic upland forest on the slopes, some of which show evidence of only moderate disturbance and are in relatively good condition. On the ridgetops included within the property, the land uses are agricultural production and restoration into native prairie vegetation.
