Metamora Courthouse Civil War Encampment Set for Sept. 16
METAMORA, IL - Step back in time to 1863 at the Metamora Courthouse State Historic Site on Sat., Sept. 16 for a living history encampment from 12 noon until 7:00 p.m.
The encampment will feature the 9th Illinois Volunteer Cavalry Co. B, The 33rd Illinois Volunteer Band, the 10th Illinois Regimental Field Hospital, Dr. Benjamin Lyford, and the Metamora Courthouse Civil War Dancers.
Camps will be open throughout the weekend, and visitors can experience the sights, sounds and smells of a Civil War era encampment. There will be interactive demonstrations, displays, and camps to tour throughout the day, and a Street Dance in the evening.
All activities are free, and donations are encouraged to support a project to restore the exterior windows of the Metamora Courthouse.

5:00 to 7:00 - Street Ball featuring the 33rd Volunteer Band and the Metamora Courthouse Civil War Dancers (public invited to participate in the dance)
The Metamora Courthouse, built in 1845, is one of two surviving courthouses on the historic Eighth Judicial Circuit traveled by Abraham Lincoln. In 1978, the Courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The Metamora Courthouse State Historic Site is located at 113 East Partridge St., Metamora.
