Lincoln's New Salem to host Voices of the Village programming

SPRINGFIELD - The public is invited to "Voices of the Village" at Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site in Menard County at 1 p.m. the first Sunday of every other month from May through November.

The hour-long program will be an interactive lecture featuring artifacts and various components of Lincoln's New Salem history. Light refreshments will be served.

The visitors' center doors open at 12:30 p.m. Visitors can enjoy a musical prelude starting at 12:45 p.m.

Sunday, May 4
Pioneer Mothers of New Salem
In honor of Mother's Day, learn about the mothers who called New Salem home. Visitors will learn about a mother's role in the 1830s, their daily lives, and interesting pioneer stories. The program will feature some artifacts on display in the visitors' center auditorium.

Sunday, July 6
Illinois College at New Salem
Illinois College has a long history with New Salem. The relationship has continued in the modern era with Illinois College interns each summer for decades. Learn from interns as they detail their memories and connection with Lincoln's New Salem, as well as the history between the two places stretching back to Abraham Lincoln himself.

History of Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site
Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site has a long history that is not only well-documented about Lincoln's time there, but also with its reconstruction and addition as one of the oldest historic sites in the Midwest.
