Project Title: Illinois Important Bird Areas

Community and/or Species Focus: Birds

Goals/Objectives:
  1. Complete a statewide inventory of Important Bird Areas (IBAs) and develop a database with GIS linkages
  2. Prioritize IBAs and develop conservation plans
  3. Work with state conservation organizations for information on bird species
  4. Work with conservation organizations to protect and improve habitat in at least 7 IBAs
Achievements:
  1. Established 66 IBAs; all information is in the Audubon IBA database and the GIS layer has been added
  2. IBAs were prioritized and conservation efforts are underway
  3. Conservation work is underway at 4 sites, and the remaining sites are in the beginning processes
