Project Title: Illinois Important Bird Areas
Community and/or Species Focus: Birds
Goals/Objectives:
- Complete a statewide inventory of Important Bird Areas (IBAs) and develop a database with GIS linkages
- Prioritize IBAs and develop conservation plans
- Work with state conservation organizations for information on bird species
- Work with conservation organizations to protect and improve habitat in at least 7 IBAs
Achievements:
- Established 66 IBAs; all information is in the Audubon IBA database and the GIS layer has been added
- IBAs were prioritized and conservation efforts are underway
- Conservation work is underway at 4 sites, and the remaining sites are in the beginning processes
