Project T-32-P1

Project Title: Land Snail Abundance and Diversity with Associated Ecological Variables in Six Southern Illinois Counties

Community and/or Species Focus:

 Land snail

Goals/Objectives:
  1. Estimate the abundance and diversity and record data on ecological variables that influence those parameters
Achievements:
  1. Collected 72 species from 60 sites at 30 nature preserves; 71% of all Illinois snail species are found in this area
  2. At least 5 of the collected species are non-native, and 3 were previously unrecorded
  3. The more complex the habitat, the more abundant and diverse the species
  4. Soil factors positively correlated with abundance
