Project Title: Large Scale Restoration along the Pecatonica River in Northern Illinois
Community and/or Species Focus: Pecatonica River, various SGCN
Goals/Objectives:
- Protect, restore, and connect riparian forests along the Pecatonica River
- Restore degraded woodlands by removing invasive species and planting native species
- Increase shrubland acreage
- Restore agricultural land and row crops to large, native prairies
- Improve water quality by restoring stream habitat along the Pecatonica River
- Provide restored, enhanced, and managed habitat for SGCN
Achievements:
- Removed invasive species from over 50 acres on and around the nature preserve
- Planted 12 acres of tree-cleared areas with native species
- Created over 90 acres of contiguous prairie habitat
