Project T-30-P1

Project Title: Evaluation of Potential Habitat for Peregrine Falcon Reintroduction in Southern Illinois

Community and/or Species Focus:

 Peregrine falcon

Goals/Objectives:
  1. Identify and survey sites that are potentially suitable for the species
  2. Conduct a population viability analysis
Achievements:
  1. Potential habitat was identified as 69 km of cliffs along the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers and the Shawnee National Forest
  2. Out of 23 sites, 4 were most suitable for reintroduction
  3. Multiple reintroduction scenarios (including a baseline with no reintroduction) were modeled and none predicted an extinct population
  4. Due to a healthy current population and the fact that they should recolonize in Illinois cliffs eventually, it is recommended to invest money elsewhere

Post-Project Survey (if applicable): n/a

Project Period: August 2006 - July 2008
