Project Title: Recovery of the Blanding's Turtle (Emydoidea blandingii) at Spring Bluff Nature Preserve, Lake County Forest Preserves

Community and/or Species Focus:

Goals/Objectives:
  1. Evaluate nest predation and effectiveness of nest protection
  2. Population modeling and augmentation
  3. Design and implement a management plan
Achievements:
  1. ​Evaluated predation and nest protection
  2. Trapped and tracked turtles to estimate population size
  3. Collected eggs for incubation and rearing; the hatchlings were then released and monitored
  4. Designed a suggestive management plan that focused on increasing juvenile and adult lifespans​ and conservation efforts to decrease mortality
