Project Title: Sand Community Restoration in the Kankakee Sands Opportunity Area

Community and/or Species Focus: Sand communities, Regal fritillary, Plains pocket gopher, Henslow's sparrow, Red-headed woodpecker

Goals/Objectives:
  1. Protect and restore 10,000 acres of sand savanna and 6,000 acres of sand prairie
  2. Protect all flatwoods
  3. Protect and sustain breeding pairs of Henslow's sparrow and red-headed woodpecker
  4. Protect and sustain populations of regal fritillary and plains pocket gopher
Achievements:
  1. ​Conducted 12 prescribed fires on 1,153 acres on SGCN habitat
  2. Controlled invasive species on over 100 acres of habitat
