Project T-125-R1

Project Title: Demography of Two Salamander Species in Conservation Need

Community and/or Species Focus: Jefferson Salamander and Silvery Salamander

Goals/Objectives:

  1. Collect and analyze demographic data for the Jefferson Salamander at two breeding wetlands in the Wabash River Conservation Opportunity Area
  2. Determine if hybridization is still occurring at the original Silvery Salamander population and at what levels, if any, it is still occurring at the newly discovered sites
  3. Collect and analyze demographic data for the Silvery Salamander at two breeding wetlands in the Vermillion River Conservation Opportunity Area

Achievements:

  1. Demographic assessment of population viability parameters at two breeding wetlands for the Jefferson Salamander
  2. Incorporate demographic information into a draft conservation plan for the Jefferson Salamander
  3. Determine hybridization rates of Silvery Salamander at a subset of populations using genetic markers
  4. Demographic assessment of population viability parameters at two breeding wetlands for the Silvery Salamander
  5. Incorporate demographic information into a draft conservation plan for the Silvery Salamander
