Project T-126-R1

Project Title: Assessing the Status of Key Blanding's Turtle Populations

Community and/or Species Focus: Blanding's Turtles

Goals/Objectives:
  1. Develop a detection probability model for the Blanding's Turtle that incorporates habitat and environmental variables
  2. Update status of Blanding's Turtle population
  3. Test detection probability model at historical Blanding's Turtle locations
Achievements:
  1. Detection probability model for the Blanding's Turtle that incorporates habitat and environmental variables, allowing land management agencies to calculate the survey effort needed to determine site occupancy
  2. Abundance estimate and sex/stage ratios for Blanding's Turtle population
  3. Updated Blanding's Turtle occupancy status for historical sites

Post-Project Survey (if applicable): n/a

Project Period: 1/1/20 - 12/31/22

Principle Investigator(s):

Jason P. Ross, Michael J. Dreslik, Andrew R. Kuhns (Illinois Natural History Survey) and John A. Crawford (National Great Rivers Research and Education Center)

Final Report: Project is currently underway; "Achievements" are projections of what is to be accomplished.
