Fishing

Fishing is limited to the use of two manned poles with no more than two hooks per pole. The following daily creel limits are enforced:

  • Largemouth/smallmouth bass: 10 per day in aggregate
  • Channel catfish: six per day
  • All other species: see statewide limits

Hunting

Site Hunting Information

Spring Turkey hunting is permitted for winning lottery applicants. Prospective hunters can apply for a special hunt permit for Mautino SFWA by applying online at the IDNR website.

Dove hunting is permitted September 1-5 from noon to 5 p.m. with a drawing at 11 a.m.; and September 6-30 from sunrise to sunset with registration required at a self check-in station on the south side of the park.

Bow hunting for deer, Fall turkey, coyote, and raccoon is permitted during the statewide archery deer season and requires a free windshield card. As of 2020, the archery deer lottery permit requirement has been removed.

Upland game hunting for pheasant, bobwhite quail, cottontail rabbit, and Hungarian partridge is allowed via nontoxic shot only to successful lottery applicants. Applications can be completed online during the month of August. The season runs from the first and second day of the statewide upland game season and on each subsequent Wednesday and Saturday in November, and on each Thursday and Sunday in December, through December 24.

Trapping is allowed during statewide trapping season and applications must be obtained from the site office, which is located in the Hennepin Canal State Park visitor center.

Prohibited Activities

Swimming, camping, campfires, horseback riding, snowmobiling, and squirrel hunting are not allowed at Mautino.
