The IDNR headquarters at 1 Natural Resources Way in Springfield has experienced a power outage and tree damage throughout the grounds as a result of severe storms in the area. The agency expects to reopen the building to the public on Monday, June 15, 2026, though this could be subject to change. Check back here for an update before planning to visit the office in person.

If your visit to Moraine Hills includes picnicking, you can choose from tables in shaded or open settings throughout the park's 10-day use areas. Each area offers parking, drinking water, and rustic toilet facilities. Flush toilets are available at the McHenry Dam concession building, Northern Woods, and at the park office. Pike Marsh, Pine Hills, Whitetail Prairie, and the Northern Woods day-use areas provide picnic shelters.

To reserve a shelter, visit ExploreMoreIL™but NOTE: we do NOT have camping at MHSP. The link (currently under construction) doesn't make reference to shelters, but they are the only type of reservable facility at Moraine Hills State Park.
