GIT Trail Blazer

Taking a long journey will definitely earn you some recognition, especially if you complete the Grand IllinoisTrail.

All you really need to do is visit all seventeen designated check points, either in a single, continuous trip or in several separate trips, but within one calendar year. We really like pictures or maybe even a journal about your trip.

Send a copy of your completed journal, along with anything else you feel appropriate to:

Participants certified as completing the Grand Illinois Trail will be featured on the Go Illinois Trails! Facebook page and will receive a certificate.

Just send an email to dnr.greenway@illinois.gov and let us know when you plan to start and complete your journey and start planning your trip(s) now! It’s that easy. Now you can download a copy of the user's guide to help you navigate turn by turn.
