Partnerships and Available Assistance
IDNR/IDOT Mitigation Plantings
The IDNR Division of Forest Resources partnered with IDOT District 2 and the City of Herrin to complete two habitat tree mitigation plantings this spring. 6.1 acres were planted at Union County State Fish and Wildlife Area and 34 acres were planted at Apple River Canyon State Park. Through this ongoing inter-agency partnering agreement, a total of 250.4 acres have been planted with another 140 scheduled to be planted in the next 4 years.
Intergovernmental agreements such as these are a powerful tool. By utilizing each agency’s resources and expertise Illinois is able to complete high-priority infrastructure projects and maintain compliance with state and federal regulations.
