Project T-13-P1

Project Title: Evaluating Water Temperature, Habitat and Fish Communities in Candidate Coolwater Streams in Illinois

Community and/or Species Focus:

Streams

Goals/Objectives:
  1. Review a list of candidate streams and identify a subset for validation
  2. Characterize the thermal regime, habitat, and vegetation of identified streams
  3. Determine availability and applicability of other data to predict additional coolwater streams
  4. Conduct macroinvertebrate sampling
Achievements:
  1. A coolwater streams list was created and validated
  2. Further redefined identified streams by including the presence of fish/macroinvertebrates, fish community structure, habitat and landscape features, and presence of aquatic vegetation
  3. Examined spatial and temporal patterns
  4. Mussel species were used as coolwater indicators
