Native plants provide beauty as well as food and shelter for wildlife. Native species are adapted to the Illinois climate. They require little or no watering and are resistant to drought, insects and most diseases. Because they are perennials, you can welcome their presence year after year.

white trout lily (Erythronium albidum)

White trout lily grows in woods and fields throughout Illinois. Flowers are borne in April and May. The petals are white, and there may be some yellow inside the flower and some purple on the back of the petals. There are two basal leaves. The leaves may be spotted with purple. A single plant may be six to nine inches tall.
