The State of Illinois is a charter member of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission ("IOGCC"). The IOGCC was created by Congress in 1935 and coordinates the activities of oil producing states. In addition, the IOGCC promotes resource conservation and the efficient recovery of petroleum while addressing the environmental impacts of oil production.
U.S. Department of Energy founded the national not-for-profit organization with regionally-focused programs that identify the technology needs of independent oil and gas producers. The Illinois State Geological Survey is a regional PTTC center.
