Boating
Motors of any size are allowed on the lake, however those larger than 10 H.P. must operate at no-wake, idle speed. Per Illinois boating regulations, each vessel must be equipped a lifejacket for each passenger on-board.
Fishing
Wolf Lake contains many freshwater species including largemouth bass, northern pike, bluegill, redear sunfish, black crappie, bullhead catfish, carp, walleye, hybrid muskie, and yellow perch. About six miles of shoreline is available to bank fisherman.
Picnicking
The main picnic area is located south of the main park entrance and parallels Avenue O. An ample quantity of tables is provided in shady spots beneath the many willow and cottonwood trees, with charcoal-supporting grill bases scattered throughout the park grounds.
Four covered shelters are available for pavilion-style picnicking and may be reserved through using ExploreMoreIL™.

Hunting
Waterfowl
The area is used for waterfowl during the fall of the year. Hunting must be done from authorized blinds, which are allocated at a public drawing during the month of July. Blinds unoccupied by their hosts are available daily should a hunter wish to use a blind yet were not allocated one for the season.

Deer
In 2024, deer-archery opened at William W. Powers SRA in the northwestern region of the park in addition to the traditional hunting grounds in the south-central region of the park.

Winter Sports
Whereas the thickness of the ice is not actively monitored by our rangers, ice fishing is permitted when conditions allow the ice to become thick enough. Ice fishermen are responsible for ensuring their safety by checking ice thickness prior to engaging in the activity.
