Fireside chats at Lincoln's New Salem
Description
Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site will host a series of fireside chats on Wednesdays and Saturdays beginning Feb. 12, Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.
Join a historical interpreter at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays through Feb. 26 in the visitors’ center. Visitors will be led on a guided walk to one of the historic homes, where they will gather around the fireplace as interpreters share stories of New Salem and its residents, including Lincoln, who lived in New Salem long before he went on to become the nation’s 16th president.
Guests are encouraged to dress accordingly as these events will take place regardless of weather conditions. Fireside chats will last from 30 to 60 minutes. Hot chocolate and refreshments will be provided.
These are free events. Registration is not required but is strongly encouraged and can be done online.
Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site is at 15588 History Lane in Petersburg. The site is managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
