The IDNR headquarters at 1 Natural Resources Way in Springfield has experienced a power outage and tree damage throughout the grounds as a result of severe storms in the area. The agency expects to reopen the building to the public on Monday, June 15, 2026, though this could be subject to change. Check back here for an update before planning to visit the office in person.

Wingshooting Program Volunteers

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources Wingshooting Program offers two types of clinics:

  • Youth/Women’s Clinics - designed to teach participants basic firearm and hunter safety, wingshooting fundamentals as well as practical wingshooting
  • Hunter Clinics - designed to enhance the wingshooting skills of hunters while giving sound wingshooting practice techniques

HOW TO BECOME A WINGSHOOTING VOLUNTEER INSTRUCTOR:

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is always looking for qualified individuals who would like to become volunteer instructors in the Wingshooting Program. The following are the requirements for volunteer instructors.

Instructor Requirements:

An eligible applicant must:

  1. Be 18 years of age or older.
  2. Have knowledge of shooting sports and ability to operate sporting clay machines.
  3. Submit a Volunteer Application.
  4. Be certified or a graduate of the IDNR Certified Wingshooting course through the IDNR Wingshooting Program.
