The IDNR headquarters at 1 Natural Resources Way in Springfield has experienced a power outage and tree damage throughout the grounds as a result of severe storms in the area. The agency expects to reopen the building to the public on Monday, June 15, 2026, though this could be subject to change. Check back here for an update before planning to visit the office in person.

The IDNR Natural Heritage Database maintains data on Illinois’ endangered and threatened species as well information for several other significant natural resources in the state.

If you wish to report the occurrence of an endangered or threatened species, you can do so using one of these 2 formats:

Map and report your observation online.

Complete an Endangered/Threatened Species Occurrence and Sighting Report Form and submit it to Tara Kieninger, IDNR Natural Heritage Database Manager, at Tara.Kieninger@illinois.gov. For individuals who are not already recognized as species experts by database staff, the addition of a photo voucher of the species occurrence is required as part of the report.
