Programs, Events, and Hikes 

All IDNR/state park programs and events are free to park visitors.  Programs are supported by generous funding from the Starved Rock Foundation, a not-for-profit friends group of the park, along with contributions from visitors and the local community.  While programs are free to attend, donations are appreciated.  

We appreciate your understanding that dogs and other domesticated animals cannot participate in park programs, events, or guided hikes unless they are certified service animals, not emotional support animals. Thank you for your cooperation! 

State park programs are not affiliated with the Starved Rock Lodge, which is a separate entity and operated by a private concessionaire that offers trolley tours, guided hikes, and live entertainment. Starved Rock Lodge and Conference Center. 

 

2026 Programs & Events 

10/31-11/30, Daily from 9-4, Starved Rock Photography Show entries due!

11/1, 10-3 Howloween:  Costume prizes, activities, crafts, and photo station for individuals, families, and their pet. 

  • Pets must be sociallized, all shots up to date, and kept on a leash (retractable not allowed-no more than a 6 foot lead) at all times, and cleaned up after.  

11/8, 1 p.m. Nature's Beat:  Drum Circle Harmony. 

11/28, 8 a.m. Finding Thankfulness in Nature:  Hike with a Naturalist.

11/29, 9 a.m. Wilderness Woofers Hike to St. Louis Canyon. 

12/6-12/31, Daily from 9-4, Starved Rock Photography Show on Display.

  • Located inside the Kaskaskia Room at the Starved Rock Visitor Center.  
  • The Visitor Center is closed on Christmas and New Year's Day. 

12/13, 1 p.m.  Art in the Park Workshop.  Nature Journaling.

12/21, 5 p.m. Winter Solstice Hike with a Naturalist. 

1/2/27, 10 a.m. Photographer Award Ceremony
