The entire Morrison-Rockwood State Park site will be closed June 23 through June 24, 2026, for Lake Management.
Lake Carlton is the centerpiece of Morrison Rockwood, unfortunately, over time the lotus vegetation has out-competed native vegetation and has made bank fishing, boating and kayaking difficult. Even with agency fisheries biologists treating the lotus, natural changes out of our control, such as lake clarity, have allowed the plant to spread beyond its normal shallow water area, and much further out from the banks. We are now looking to be more efficient and effective by using drones to apply treatment. Drones can cover more ground in less time at a decreased cost to the park. By getting on an annual schedule for drone spraying, we will also improve fish habitat and reduce a monoculture habitat by letting a wider variety of native plants to fill in on the lake. Finally, this change in procedure will increase access for bank fishing which is a favorite here at the park.

A trip to picturesque Morrison-Rockwood State Park offers many memorable experiences. A large sign in the shape of Illinois, fashioned from angle iron by a blacksmith, greets visitors at the entrance. Once inside, choose from a variety of recreational opportunities. Beautiful Lake Carlton, a stream-fed reservoir, features an abundance of ducks and geese and is considered a prime location for fishing. Morrison-Rockwood is a popular spot for a family outing at the Lakeview picnic area, or watching birds among the hickory, ash, oak and walnut trees.
